Professor Iryna Snyadanko, Doctor of Psychology, Head of the Department of Theoretical and Applied Psychology (the TAP Department), conducted the training «Building a psychologically safe workplace at the Department» for the heads of the Departments within the framework of the School of Leadership. The participants learned how important it is to maintain psychological safety for the mental health of both an individual employee and the team as a whole.
A separate thematic block the training was dedicated to the problem of toxic relationships at work – a tiring factor that takes a lot of time and energy from the manager. Iryna Sniadanko told the training participants about the techniques of interaction with toxic employees and how to «neutralize the enemy», as well as explained what basic personal safety is.
Also, Professor provided the participants with lots of real examples, on the basis of which she outlined the factors affecting the professional deformation of managers. It is important for them to form a high self-esteem in order not to fall into the «manager’s trap» when subordinates manipulate their trust and truthfulness. You need to be able to analyze disagreements in the team in order to understand what is behind them.
– The main asset that we receive in the process of professional activity is social capital. In today’s realities, it is important for a manager to understand the basics of psychodiagnostics in order to recognize the signs of those employees who unbalance the working atmosphere and add destructive stress. For example, sometimes manipulators create the illusion of indispensability, they say that the Department cannot properly operate without them. Although it often happens that the effectiveness of their work is quite low, noted the Head of the TAP Department.
The University is a large multi-level organization with large-scale communication networks at various levels. For its effective work, a psychologically safe environment is one of the main conditions. The Heads of the Departments are entrusted with a very wide range of tasks and great responsibility.
