Khrystyna Burshtynska and Anatolii Zahorodnii became honorary professors of Lviv Polytechnic

During the solemn meeting of the Academic Board, Lviv Polytechnic awarded the title of Honorary Professor to Khrystyna Burshtynska, Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor at the Department of Photogrammetry and Geoinformatics, the Institute of Geodesy, and Anatolii Zahorodnii, former Vice-Rector for Education, long-term Head of the Department of Accounting and Analysis.

Almost half a century of work for Polytechnic

Professor Oleh Kuzmin, Director of the Institute of Economics and Management, introduced Professor Anatolii Zahorodnii, outlining the main milestones of his scientific activity.

– Anatolii Zahorodnii has been working at Lviv Polytechnic since 1979. During these years he went through the career path of assistant to Vice-Rector, founded and developed the Department of Accounting and Analysis, which he headed for 14 years. He participated in the development of a number of regulations of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine and more than 60 regulations governing the educational and methodological work of the University. He is currently the head of the Scientific and Methodological Board of the University and the chairman of the budget commission of the Academic Board of Lviv Polytechnic. Anatolii Zahorodnii is also the Executive Director of the Lviv Polytechnic Development Charitable Foundation. During his research career he has prepared and published about 30 textbooks and 8 manuals, some of which have been republished many times, and five of them won the university competition of textbooks and manuals. Since 2002, the researcher has been working on departmental issues, published 15 monographs and about 200 scientific articles, said Oleh Kuzmin.

Anatolii Zahorodnii has received many awards for his work, including a diploma of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, a badge of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine «Excellence in Education of Ukraine», the Ivan Ohienko Prize in Education for the first Ukrainian-language financial dictionary and others.

Prior to the awarding of the honorary title, Professor Kornylii Tretiak, Director of the Institute of Geodesy, introduced Professor Khrystyna Burshtynska, emphasizing the achievements of the researcher in the field of photogrammetry and geoinformatics.

– Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor Khrystyna Burshtynska is a bright and multifaceted person. We are all lucky to work with such an extraordinary personality. Her boundless worldview and tireless diligence inspire. Khrystyna Burshtynska has been working at Lviv Polytechnic since 1963, holding various positions at the Department of Aerial Photography. In 2003 she successfully defended her doctoral dissertation on «Theoretical and methodological foundations of digital terrain modeling based on photogrammetric and cartographic data». She is an outstanding researcher in remote sensing of the Earth. The main direction of the professor’s research is related to the construction of digital terrain models based on aerospace images and remote sensing of the Earth and geographic information systems, said Kornylii Tretiak.

Laudator also emphasized that Khrystyna Burshtynska took part in a number of state and economic issues, was the manager and executor of the international project «Protection of historical and cultural landscape in order to develop regional features for the local economy».

– The combination of professional and public work also deserves special attention. Since 1991, Khrystyna Burshtynska has been the Head of the Prosvita Society and a member of the regional council of the Prosvita Society. Since then, she has been initiating and organizing various educational events. Khrystyna Burshtynska has been awarded various prizes for her tireless activity and achievements: the badge «Excellence in Education», the Diploma of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, the Diploma of the Ministry of Education, the Order of Princess Olga III degree, etc., said Kornylii Tretiak.
