In March 2025, a series of deep, meaningful and emotionally charged lectures «Energy of Ukraine: Teaching Electrical Engineering Disciplines in Time of War» dedicated to the current challenges and prospects of the Ukrainian energy sector took place within the international educational project Connect, Compare, and Repair for a Common Future with Ukraine: Focus on Teaching Electrical Engineering (CONN’COR).

The CONN’COR project is implemented in partnership between universities in Poland, France, Serbia and Ukraine to establish academic cooperation, support Ukraine and create new opportunities for students and teachers in the post-war world.

The guest lecturer was Professor Oksana Hoholiuk, Doctor of Technical Sciences, Head of the Department of Theoretical and General Electrical Engineering, the Institute of Power Engineering and Control Systems, Lviv Polytechnic, who shared her unique experience, scientific analysis and vision of the future of the Ukrainian electricity industry. The meetings were moderated by Iryna Moroz, project coordinator, Associate Professor of the Department of General Physics, the Institute of Applied Mathematics and Basic Sciences, who ensured a dynamic dialogue between the participants and facilitated an active exchange of views.

The audience of the lectures included teachers, scientists and researchers from three partner universities from France (CS), Serbia (UNI) and Poland (BUT), as well as CONN’COR project participants from three Lviv Polytechnic Departments – the Department of General Physics, IMFS, the Department of Electronic Engineering, ICTE, and the Department of Theoretical and General Electrical Engineering, IPEC. The audience showed sincere interest in the topic, actively discussed the topical issues and expressed numerous words of support and wishes for peace, reconstruction and prosperity for Ukraine, which is now courageously resisting aggression.

The lecture focused on the transformation of Ukraine’s energy sector under the pressure of military realities. The lecture covered the following key issues:

  • the current state of energy infrastructure, its vulnerability to attacks and the consequences of destruction;
  • emergency measures to restore energy supply, the search for autonomous solutions and strategies for long-term energy sustainability;
  • the role of electrical engineers in crisis conditions and their contribution to energy security;
  • adaptation of curricula to prepare specialists to work in emergency situations with a focus on resilience, cybersecurity and innovative technologies.

The lecture series has become not only a scientific and educational event, but also a platform for intercultural dialogue, exchange of experience and solidarity. The joint focus on education, energy security and recovery paves the way for future cooperation between universities in Europe and Ukraine in the field of electrical engineering.
