IHSS students successfully undergo their internship at the Warmian–Masurian Voivodeship Sejmik (Republic of Poland)

Since October 2022, undergraduate students of the International Relations educational program, the Institute of the Humanities and Social Sciences, Lviv Polytechnic National University, have been successfully studying under the double degree program at the University of Warmia and Mazury in Olsztyn, Republic of Poland, majoring in Political Science. The program opens up wide opportunities for students both for education and further professional development. It is important that studies under the double diploma program for Lviv Polytechnic students are carried out free of charge.

Professor Teresa Astramowicz-Leyk, Doctor of Political Sciences, the coordinator of the double degree program from the University of Warmia and Mazury, said that on February 20, 2023, five third-year students began their internship at the Warmian–Masurian Voivodeship Sejmik. Students study the international cooperation of the Voivodship, meet with the heads of Sejmik commissions, participate in the work of the national and ethnic minorities commission headed by Yaroslav Sloma, as well as study the work of the international cooperation commission headed by Professor Teresa Astramowicz-Leyk.

It is important that Lviv Polytechnicians have the opportunity to communicate with deputies, experts, public figures and activists, in particular, Myron Sych - Vice-Marshal of the Warmian–Masurian Voivodeship. Students also attend international events held by Sejmik, including conferences, forums, charity events, participate in volunteering, and help Ukrainian refugees. Viktor Leyk, Director of the Sejmik Chancellery, the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship, and his deputy Anna Maksysko-Mukha provide special assistance in the organization of students' internship.

Also on February 20, 2023, Professor Pawel Velgosz, Vice-Rector for International Cooperation, the University of Warmia and Mazury in Olsztyn, met with students studying under the double degree program, as well as with Professor Yaryna Turchyn, program coordinator at Lviv Polytechnic National University, Director of the Institute of the Humanities and Social Sciences, Professor Teresa Astramowicz-Leyk, Coordinator from the University of Warmia and Mazury in Olsztyn, and Professor Halyna Lutsyshyn, Head of the Department of Political Science and International Relations, Lviv Polytechnic, who is currently undergoing a scientific internship within the framework of the Ivan Vyhovsky Award at the University of Warmia and Mazury in Olsztyn During the meeting, they discussed the development and prospects of inter-university cooperation, as well as holding the 8th Ukrainian-Polish Scientific Forum in May 2023.

The double degree program has been successfully operating at the Department of Political Science and International Relations for sixth years. More than 20 students received a diploma from Lviv Polytechnic National University and the University of Warmia and Mazury in Olsztyn, Republic of Poland. The results of the student survey showed that they are satisfied with the level of education at the University of Warmia and Mazury and after returning to Ukraine they found a job (many graduates of this program work in Ukrainian-Polish institutions, international cooperation departments, in the IT field, etc.). The participants of the program significantly increased their level of foreign language skills, studied the experience of European states, established good relations, and feel more confident in the labour market both in Ukraine and abroad.
