Before the beginning of the new 2022/2023 academic year, a new laboratory stand for the study and research of a smart house control systems was installed in the laboratory of the Department of Automation and Computer-Integrated Technologies, the Institute of Power Engineering and Control Systems, Lviv Polytechnic. The equipment was developed with the active participation and sponsorship of the Department graduates.
The bachelor’s degree program in the specialty «Automation and Computer-Integrated Technologies» includes the elective unit «Information Technologies of Computer-Integrated Control Systems». The part of its disciplines is dedicated to the study of a smart house control systems. Therefore, the developed laboratory stand will be used during the study of such disciplines, in particular, «Technical Means of Life Support Systems Automation», «Information Technologies of a Smart House», as well as during the students’ performance of course projects and bachelor’s qualification works.
The purpose of creating a laboratory stand is to visually present typical solutions for the development of smart house control systems using modern technical means, as well as information and network technologies. In particular, the stand provides an opportunity to study examples of implementation of Internet of Things (IoT) technologies for remote access to the control system from a smartphone or a tablet through specialized web interfaces of technical automation tools.
To realize the set goal, technical means of automation with built-in interfaces of wireless data transmission technologies Wi-Fi, ZigBee, as well as wired – Ethernet and KNX were used during the development of the laboratory stand. In addition, technical means were used to protect the electrical equipment of life support systems.
The design, manufacture and adjustment of the stand was carried out with the participation of the Department graduates, namely Viktor Dzhyhyrei and Andrii Mykhalskyi, and the third-year bachelor’s student Oleksandr Lumianyk under the guidance of senior teacher of the Department Ihor Kostyk.
Special gratitude should also be expressed to our partners who participated in the creation of the stand by providing materials and parts of equipment for installation work, in particular to such companies as Robitnia, Lviv, and Dobri Mebli, Kalush.
