Researchers of the International Institute of Education, Culture and Diaspora Relations, Lviv Polytechnic National University, Viktoriia Hoisan and Yurii Marusyk, were invited to speak on «Immigration and Transnationalism: The EU Experience» for participants of the Second Online Summer School, which took place on June 23–25, 2021.
The event was held as part of the research project Jean Monnet Transcarpathian Center for the Studying European Development Strategies of Uzhgorod National University.
IECDR researchers presented a report on «Youth civic activism of Ukrainian migrants in the EU: a study of the problem». They shared the achievements of the Institute and demonstrated the results of a sociological survey of civic activism among Ukrainian youth in selected countries of the European Union, which was conducted in 2019.
Thus, Yurii Marusyk described a typical portrait of activists, told about the spheres of activity of public organizations, and emphasized the process of their institutionalization. Viktoria Hoisan revealed the issues of partnership and cooperation of Ukrainian public organizations abroad and outlined the respondents’ reflections on the acquired migration experience.
The participants of the Summer School were interested in the issues of the Ukrainian language and the preservation of the identity of Ukrainians abroad, certain areas of work of Ukrainian youth NGOs in the EU countries, as well as the methodology of the study conducted.
Among the speakers there were civil servants, teachers, well-known experts, researchers not only from Ukraine but from Kazakhstan and Slovakia. Their reports revealed various aspects of migration processes in Ukraine and abroad in modern and historical dimensions. The School participants were students, masters’ and doctoral students of Uzhhorod National University, as well as other invited persons.
