On September 30, the conference «Prospects for teaching and learning Ukrainian as a foreign language» was held. It was organized by the Ukrainian Institute, the National Commission on the State Language Standards and the Ukraine Crisis Media Center. The online audience of the event was almost 2 thousand people.

At the conference, participants discussed, in particular, the issue of teaching the Ukrainian language abroad; current state of affairs and main challenges related to teaching Ukrainian as a foreign language; road map for the promotion of the Ukrainian language in the world.

Studying Ukrainian abroad is of interest not only to the diaspora, told Iryna Kliuchkovska, Director of the International Institute of Education, Culture and Diaspora Relations, Lviv Polytechnic National University.

– The main part of people interested in learning Ukrainian as a foreign language is not only the representatives of the old diaspora, but also the newest labour migrants who are integrated and assimilated into the diaspora through Sunday and Saturday Schools and, of course, higher Ukrainian-language studies that are part of the system of Slavic studies. The study is interesting for international students who came to Ukraine for higher education and are potential bearers of true knowledge about Ukraine and our culture, as well as representatives of diplomatic missions, said Iryna Kliuchkovska.
