Last week the employees of the Department of Sociology and Social Work, the Institute of the Humanities and Social Sciences, summarized the completion of the training of veterans’ assistants at Lviv Polytechnic National University, which was held in compliance with the Resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine dated 19.06.2023 No. 652 «On the implementation of an experimental project regarding the introduction of the veteran’s assistant institute in the system of transition from military service to civilian life».
The initiator and trainer of the project at Lviv Polytechnic is Tetiana Shapovalova, Associate Professor at the Department of Sociology and Social Work. The driving force behind the project is Liliia Klos, Head of the Department, Professor Larysa Klymanska, Assistant Professors Mariana Shkoliar and Uliana Yatsyshyn, senior lecturers Nataliia Zelenko and Halyna Herasym, and an ATO participant, graduate of the Ukraine – Norway project, legal consultant Vitalii Kuzminskyi.
The training was carried out under the program «Organizing the work of an assistant of war veterans and demobilized persons». The training involved team work on legal support for veterans together with a participant in hostilities, to visualize a veteran’s portrait in order to clarify stereotypes and realities. The participants also got acquainted with the possibility of opening a veteran business by visiting the University’s Tech StartUp School.
What mood did the veteran’s assistants finish their training in? «The mood is combative. Motivation is steel. The desire to help the defenders and their families is irresistible», commented Bohdana Shevchenko, a project’s graduate and now a veteran’s official assistant.
