On March 6, Iryna Andrusiak, assistant at the Department of History of State and Law at the Institute of Jurisprudence and Psychology of Lviv Polytechnic, delivered a lecture on Gender Equality in Ukraine: Origins and Ideas.

The event was co-organized by the HSL Department and ELSA Lviv organization (the Lviv branch of the European Law Students’ Association).

In his speech, the speaker proposed to look at the retrospective of the Ukrainian aspect of one of the most discussed topics in the world – the issue of gender equality.

We constantly hear that the notion of gender equality is imposed on us, it came from the West and is not inherent in us, it’s a tribute to fashion, and so on. Hanna Barvinok and Marko Vovchok are the first women who showed violence in the family in their works, which is also a problem of the present ... The main problem of gender issues in Ukraine is its wrong interpretation: by means of manipulations we are offered the wrong concepts and definitions. Gender equality does not eliminate the differences between men and women: we are equal in rights, but physiologically we are different, stressed Iryna Andrusiak.

The announced lecture was interesting and relevant to young people, as it gathered not only Polytechnic students, but students from other Lviv higher education institutions as well.
