The fifth Data Protection Day was held at Lviv Polytechnic National University. This event is organized within the framework of the Erasmus+ project, Jean Monnet Chair «Data Protection in the EU» (101085612 – DataProEU – ERASMUS-JMO-2022-HEI-TCH-RSCH).
This year the World Data Protection Day 2024 event expanded its geography: more than 200 participants from all over Ukraine – Lviv, Kyiv, Kharkiv, Poltava, Uman, Bila Tserkva, Dnipro, Sumy and Odesa, speakers from Great Britain and Spain, as well as representatives of leading law and IT companies in Lviv. All this became possible thanks to the online format of the event.
This year’s conference was solemnly opened by Nataliya Chukhray, Vice-Rector for Education and International Relations, Lviv Polytechnic, who noted the special relevance of data protection of citizens and the importance of studying and implementing the EU-general data protection regulation (GDPR) in the aspect of Ukraine’s European integration direction. Vasyl Tesliuk, Head of the Department of Automated Control Systems (ACS), the Institute of Computer Science and Information Technologies, also made a speech, emphasizing the great positive impact on the educational process of the Jean Monnet project, the Chair «Data Protection in the EU», thanks to which new, relevant and academic disciplines, important for the IT industry, appeared.
Anastasiia Doroshenko, coordinator of the Jean Monnet Chair project, Assistant Professor at the ACS Department, spoke about all the activities, events and educational programs implemented within the project, noted wide activities and interest of students in studying the GDPR and other data protection standards, because today for an IT specialist understanding responsibility for collected and processed personal data is very important and relevant.
