An evening in memory of Borys Voznytsky, the famous Ukrainian art critic, winner of the Shevchenko Prize, who was the director of the Lviv National Art Gallery for 50 years, was held in the reading room of the Scientific and Technical Library of Lviv Polytechnic. The event was organized by Ukrainian Photographic Society UFOTO, Lviv Photo Museum and Scientific and Technical Library of Lviv Polytechnic National University.
The evening began with a screening of a documentary about the life of the «guardian angel of the castles». In her introductory speech, Natalia Filevych, Director of the Nahirnyi Charitable Foundation, shared her memories of Borys Voznytskyi.
«We decided to make this evening truly extraordinary. Those who remember Borys Voznytskyi were happy to watch the documentary. But at the same time, it is quite sad that walking down the Kopernyka Street we will never see his tall figure in a jacket and with the Order – the Star of the Hero. During his life he received many awards and created a great team of museum workers. The doors of Voznytsky's office were always open to guests. Anyone could come to him with any request. Borys Voznytskyi will remain in our memory forever», stressed Natalia Filevych.
Thanks to Borys Voznytsky, Lviv residents have the opportunity to see the preserved Church of St. Andrew, the Book Museum, the building of Potocki Palace, the museum of the first printer Ivan Fedorov and Rusalka Dnistrova. Also a well-known culture activist came up with the idea of creating a popular tourist route «Golden Horseshoe of Lviv», which includes Oleskyi, Zolochiv, Pidhirtsi and Svirsk castles. In total, Borys Voznytskyi created 16 museum complexes.
«First of all, this is not an evening of remembrance, said Roman Metelskyi, chairman of the Ukrainian Photographic Society and a well-known Lviv collector and photographer. – This is an evening of memories of the outstanding Lviv resident Borys Voznytskyi. Today in the reading room there are those who were personally acquainted with him or those who are not indifferent to his work. We created this event to remember important and happy moments from the life of Borys Voznytskyi».
Borys Voznytskyi’s daughter Larysa Voznytska-Razinkova attended the event. The woman moved the audience with her stories about her father, and also presented the Polytechnic Scientific and Technical Library with «Cathedral of Borys Voznytskyi. Memories and reflections».
Among the honored guests of the event there was Mariia Soiko, a senior researcher at the Borys Voznytskyi Lviv National Gallery of Arts. She said warm words about the art critic.
«Borys Voznytskyi loved his life, children, work and his Homeland. He showed it every second with his work. It is rare to meet a person who is so passionate about his work. Today it is a difficult time for Ukraine. We know that Borys Voznytskyi began his career under similar circumstances. But despite the obstacles, he always sought to enrich and glorify his country. I believe that a culture activist will soon appear in Ukraine and will continue this work», said the woman.
At the end of the event, guests had the opportunity to view a book exhibition prepared by employees of the Scientific and Technical Library of Lviv Polytechnic.
