Employees of the Department of Ukrainian language took part in the 35th Scientific Session of the Shevchenko Scientific Society

This year in March, within the framework of the 35th Scientific session of the Shevchenko Scientific Society, the Linguistic Commission of the Shevchenko Scientific Society and the Ethnographic Commission of the Section of Ethnography and Folklore was scheduled on March 21, 2024.

The Linguistic Commission dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the birth of Uliana Yedlinska (1924–2016) was held at the Art Research Institute Library resources, Stefanyk National Science Library (Lviv, 2 Bibliothechna St.). The meeting of the Ethnographic Commission of the Section of Ethnography and Folklore, which was dedicated to the anniversaries of outstanding figures of the Shevchenko Scientific Society in the field of folklore studies, anthropology and ethnography: the 180th anniversary of the birth of Mykhailo Komarov (1844–1913), the 150th anniversary of the birth of Ivan Rakovskyi (1874–1949) and the 120th anniversary of the birth of Iryna Hurhula (1904–1967). The meetings were held in a hybrid format (offline and online Zoom session) at the Institute of Folklore, the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine (Lviv, 15 Svobody Avenue).

Members of the Shevchenko Scientific Society, Myroslava Hnatiuk, Associate Professor at the Department of Ukrainian Language, and Iryna Cherevko, senior lecturer at the Department of Ukrainian Language, took part in the Linguistic Commission of the National Academy of Sciences. The moderator of the meeting was Doctor of Philological Sciences Hanna Dydyk-Meush, the current head of the Linguistics Commission of the Shevchenko Scientific Society. The program of the meeting featured reports about Uliana Yedlinska, a tireless worker in the field of linguistics, a well-known philologist, an outstanding Ukrainian cultural researcher, to honour her as an extraordinary and outstanding researcher, a valid member of the Shevchenko Scientific Society, the first head of the Linguistics Commission of the restored Shevchenko Scientific Society in independent Ukraine. The reports focused on Uliana Yedlinska’s interpretation of language, history and culture, and presented her works in the archive. Uliana Yedlinska is the author of many studies on the history of the Ukrainian language, a researcher of written works of the 17th-18th centuries, the compiler of the Dictionary of the Old Ukrainian Language of the 14th-15th Centuries, Dictionary of the Ukrainian Language of the 16th – First Half of the 17th Centuries, and Polish-Ukrainian Dictionary. She researched such prominent figures as Ivan Krypiakevych, Ilarion Svientsitskyi, Kyrylo Studynskyi, Oleksii Horbach and others.
