How to act during air raids, how to distinguish firearms and dangerous objects, how to act in case of chemical and radiation danger, how to provide first aid when affected by dangerous chemical substances and in which cases it is necessary to carry out iodine prophylaxis – these issues were discussed at the personal safety training during of wartime, which took place in the House of the Warrior.
The training was conducted by Orest Vakhula, Candidate of Technical Sciences, Associate Professor at the Department of Civil Safety, Viacheslav Chornovil Institute of Sustainable Development, Lviv Polytechnic National University. He is also the author of the manual on man-made disasters.
In the war against Ukraine, the enemy uses various methods of struggle. As a result of bombings and missile attacks, civilian residents find themselves trapped under rubble. Chemical weapons are used against the Ukrainian military, and both civilians and military suffer from the effects of explosive devices. The radiation blackmail of the Russian terrorists, who seized the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant, continues.
In any of these situations, you must know how to counter and prevent danger from the first minutes of an enemy attack. During an air raid, it is important to have an emergency backpack, get to a safe place in the house, and in the case of a building collapse, you must know how to give a signal and wait for help. Outside the house, you need to know how to avoid places where there may be explosive objects and how to act if you detect them. In addition, there is a long list of recommendations on how to behave during a chemical or radiation attack.
«There are clear recommendations that must be followed during an air raid, during the use of chemical weapons and in the case of a radiation emergency. The same applies to the issue of iodine prophylaxis – you need to follow the recommendations of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, says Orest Vakhula. – Specialists of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine, who work with young people at schools and educational institutions, are currently doing a great deal of work on the issue of civil security. Great work has been done this year. In fact, a responsible specialist of the State Emergency Service is assigned to each educational institution. Information on what to do in case of danger is constantly updated. This is an enormous organizational work».
A series of trainings at the House of the Warrior takes place within the framework of the project «ReHab: measures to overcome crisis situations and develop the resilience of vulnerable categories of the population of the city of Lviv and the Lviv region regarding the effects and consequences of war», which is implemented with the support of the «Ukrainian Rapid Response Fund» program, implemented by IREX with the support of the U.S. Department of State.
