On 24 October, the Department of Management and International Business, the Institute of Economics and Management, held an open lecture on the Zoom platform. The guest lecturer was David Rubens, Executive Director of the Institute of Strategic Risk Management (London, UK), who holds a doctorate in Security and Risk Management from University of Portsmouth. He is also a Professor in the United Nations University for Peace European Centre for Peace and Development (Belgrade) where he is Programme Director for the International Postgraduate Study Programme in Strategic Risk and Crisis Management, Lecturer on the International Security Masters programme at Berlin School of Economics and Law and Visiting Lecturer at the University of Gloucestershire Business School.
Before the meeting began, the participants – bachelor’s and master’s students majoring in Management and International Economic Relations (specialities 073 and 292) – were welcomed by Professor Liana Chernobai, Candidate of Economic Sciences, the Acting Head of the Department, Professor Mykhailo Honchar, Doctor of Economics, Director of the Institute of Economics and Management, and Professor Nataliia Stanasiuk, Doctor of Economics, Deputy Director of the Institute of Economics and Management, who are organizing a series of lectures with the British Professor.
«Chaos and Complexity: Modelling Strategic Risks in 2020» is the topic of the first lecture in the series entitled «Strategic Risks and Crisis Management: Vision 2030». More than 50 people, including lecturers and students of the Department of Management and International Business attended the first lesson. The lecture was held in English. To attract the widest possible audience, a hybrid format was used: offline in room 310 in the IV academic building of Lviv Polytechnic and online on the Zoom platform.
The lecture covered the following issues:
- strategic risks definition and management;
- the concepts of strategic risk and strategic risk management;
- the main causes of risk situations;
- risk recognition tools and other technologies that can help an organization identify and monitor strategic risks.
At the end of the lecture, David Rubens emphasized that his research is aimed at improving control systems to make informed decisions in the case of a crisis, analyzing the structure and capabilities for managing strategic risks and crises that meet the challenges of the next generation.
