«Discover Ukrainian: travel, see and read» is a new project of the public organization «Blind Rehabilitation Fund», implemented in 2021 with the financial support of the Department of Social Protection, Lviv City Council. From May 24 until the end of the month, 25 people with visual impairments will travel to historical and natural locations in Khmelnytskyi region. Blind Lvivites, including 4 children, will visit Bakota and the Dnister canyon, the castle and parks of Kamianets-Podilsky, Khotyn fortress, waterfalls in the village Maliivtsi and the village Hrushka, the museum of Les Kurbas, the Way of the Cross and the ancient kościół in Khmelnytskyi region.

– The road trip, which will last for a week, will be accompanied by audio description – commenting on the entire visual series, which the blind are able to see only through the audio description. Thus, the journey will once again be interesting, exciting and affordable. Let us remind that due to cooperation with the Lviv City Council, blind Lvivites travelled to Cherkasy, Chernihiv, Zakarpattia, Ternopil, Zhytomyr, Vinnytsia and other regions over the past few years. People who cannot see discover colourful and multifaceted Ukraine, said Oksana Potymko, Head of the Resource Center for Educational Information Technology for Persons with Disabilities, Lviv Polytechnic, public activist and adviser to the mayor of Lviv.

In addition, as part of the event «Discover Ukrainian: travel, see and read» NGO «Blind Rehabilitation Fund» is adapting for people with severe visual impairments two feature films – «My thoughts are silent» and «The Tale of Money», and intends to publish in Braille and create an audio version of Lesia Ukrainka’s poem «Cassandra» on the occasion of the poet’s anniversary. Let us remind that this poem has not been published in Braille yet.
