Fourth-year students Danylo Hrynkevych (Department of Architectural Constructions) and Ostap Liubytskyi (Department of Design and Architecture Fundamentals) responded to the proposal to develop a project of a Rehabilitation Department for the Zaporizhia orphanage «Sonechko», evacuated to the Stryi city children’s hospital.
The students claim that they worked independently, relying on the regulatory documents for the design of such a space and the knowledge gained during their studies. This is not their first successful project. According to Danylo and Ostap, the most important thing here was to create a normative and maximally comfortable space for the department’s employees and patients. In solving the design project of the rehabilitation center, the main design trends of this type of premises were applied.
─ After a meeting with the director of the hospital and detailed measurements of the premises of the building where the rehabilitation department will be located, we formed clear conceptual solutions in the planning and design project. All the necessary regulatory information and materials regarding the design of this type of premises have been carefully worked out. We took into account the fact that each office should be planned according to its purpose and equipped with the necessary equipment. We tried to make as much effort as possible to create a normative and maximally comfortable space for the department’s employees and patients, says Danylo.
In July, the first stage of project implementation began in the premises of the future rehabilitation department. Danylo Hrynkevych and Ostap Liubitskyi hope that the project will be implemented and put into operation as soon as possible, because it is extremely important for children from occupied and de-occupied settlements who need rehabilitation assistance. Equally important is the invaluable professional experience gained by architecture students.
It should be said that the prerequisite for the involvement of students of the Institute of Architecture and Design in the creation of the rehabilitation center project was the volunteer activity of the Center for Legal Research on Gender Equality, Lviv Polytechnic, which, together with the NGO «Yariy» and Austrian partners – the charity organization Save Ukraine Graz – directed to «Sonechko» orphanage evacuated from Zaporizhzhia all the most necessary humanitarian aid. Therefore, the hospital directorate turned to representatives of the Center, teachers of the Institute of Jurisprudence, Psychology and Innovative Education Iryna Andrusiak and Iryna Khomyshyn, with a request to help attract students who would agree to carry out such an important and urgent project.
