In the Innovative Polytechnic section the Research and Development Department, Lviv Polytechnic, tells about an ultra-high-sensitivity digital programmable gradient meter for high-precision magnetic reconnaissance – its experimental sample was developed at the University.
The first practical test of the gradient meter was carried out in the field of high-precision magnetic reconnaissance, which is used for archaeological and geophysical research. In particular, a mock-up of the SKIF-A portable device for archaeological magnetic exploration was made.
However, with the beginning of the war, a decision was made and a series of negotiations were held with the military to begin testing the existing device in the field of engineering and sapper units – this is what the scientific group of Polytechnicians is currently working on.
The use of the SKIF-A device for the purpose of demining territories that were under occupation and where hostilities took place will help speed up the demining process, which, based on international experience, can last from 5 to 10 years. The search for explosive objects with such a device will make it possible to clear the territories of the negative consequences of the invasion of the territory of Ukraine by Russian troops, restore the functioning of infrastructure facilities and ensure the relatively safe life of people in these territories in a short time.
According to the developers, the cost of such a device is several times lower than the price of foreign counterparts, and its high sensitivity will make the demining process safer.
