On 21–23 November 2024, Lviv Polytechnic National University is hosting the Ukrainian Open Science Forum (UOSF2024). This event has become one of the key scientific events of the year in Ukraine, bringing together researchers, academics, students, postgraduates and everyone interested in open science, academic integrity and current challenges in the world of science. The Forum is held in a hybrid format, which allows everyone to join it both in person in Lviv and online.

One of the main goals of the Forum is to promote the integration of the Ukrainian scientific community into the global scientific space. UOSF2024 will be the outcome of the four-year Optima Project (Erasmus+ CBHE), which focused on the implementation of open science principles in Ukraine. The main topics of the Forum will cover a wide range of issues, such as the impact of open science on society and the academic community, reforming research assessment in accordance with the #CoARA principles, ensuring research reproducibility, and launching a new Ukrainian Reproducibility Network. The Forum participants will have the opportunity to learn more about current trends in research ecosystems in the European Union, the United Kingdom, the United States, and other countries. A significant part of the event will be dedicated to the implementation of the National Open Science Plan in Ukraine, its potential impact on the development of science and education in the country, and the development of policies aimed at integrating the Ukrainian scientific system into the international context.

– It is a great honour for me to host the participants of the Ukrainian Open Science Forum at Lviv Polytechnic. Almost four years ago, we held the kick-off meeting of the Optima project together, which became the first international educational project under the Erasmus+ programme coordinated by Lviv Polytechnic. I express my gratitude to all our partners for their trust, support, and resilience. The Ukrainian Open Science Forum is the final event of the Optima project, and it is very symbolic that it is combined with the 11th International Youth Science Forum Litteris et Artibus, as openness and integrity are the sacred principles which should be taught to modern youth», said Yuriy Bobalo, Acting Rector of Lviv Polytechnic National University.

The event includes not only panel discussions, but also numerous thematic sessions, presentations and workshops that allow participants to dive into key aspects of open science and exchange experience with leading industry experts. The Forum will also include the 11th International Youth Science Forum Litteris et Artibus, which traditionally brings together talented young people to discuss topical issues of modern science.

The Forum is organised with the support of the European Union as part of the Optima project. A number of leading Ukrainian and international institutions joined the event, including Lviv Polytechnic National University, Sumy State University, Vasyl Stus Donetsk National University, Lutsk National Technical University, National Antarctic Scientific Center of Ukraine, Graz University of Technology, Wroclaw University of Science and Technology, Côte d’Azur University and many others. Among the partners there is the Institute for Open Science and Innovation, the Council of Young Scientists at the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, Eurodoc and Stichting eIFL.net.
