The Knyhokrai (Bookland) project is an electronic educational and motivational platform created to promote reading among students of Lviv region. Its main task is to arouse interest in books, form a culture of conscious reading, and give children the tools to analyse what they read on their own.
The project presentation was attended by Andrii Hodyk, First Deputy Head of the Lviv Regional Military Administration, Nataliia Shakhovska, Professor at Lviv Polytechnic National University (who has recently won the competition for the position of rector of the university and is to be appointed soon), Oleh Paska, Director of the Department, educators, library and school directors and staff, and publishers.
– The Knyhokrai project is extremely important, and we are very pleased to have been able to contribute to its development. After all, it is about encouraging children to read – and this happens in an interesting, competitive way. Students receive points, prizes, and most importantly, motivation to read more. I sincerely hope that the platform will work effectively, and we will be able to attract more children to reading not only from Lviv region, but from all over Ukraine, said Nataliia Shakhovska.
Knyhokrai consists of several interactive modules:
- Online Bookstore – a selection of literature with a brief description;
- Book Aloud – audio versions of books for easy listening;
- The Readers to Readers Forum – a space for sharing experiences;
- Game and analytical materials – tests, quizzes, crosswords and interactive tasks;
- Personal account – a system for tracking reading achievements;
- The teacher’s account – a tool for supporting and analysing students’ reading progress.
One of the important components of the project is a rating competition between schools and communities. This approach motivates children not only to read, but also to discuss what they have read, analyse it, and form their own opinions.
The Knyhokrai project has already involved 28 partners, 93 educational institutions and 44 active users. 368 books with test tasks have already been downloaded.
