Recently, students from Ukraine joined the Science and Sail Summer School organised in Klaipėda (Lithuania) by the Baltic University Programme (BUP) and Klaipėda University. The theme of the school was “The Environment of the Baltic Sea”, and the training combined on-land and on-board activities under the leading experts from various Baltic countries. The event gathered around 40 participants — bachelor’s, master’s, and PhD students from across the Baltic region.

The programme provided participants with an opportunity to explore the unique natural conditions of the Baltic Sea, deepen their knowledge of sustainable development challenges, and understand climate change issues in coastal areas. The learning format combined lectures, practical tasks, and field research, allowing students to apply their knowledge on practice. The international atmosphere of the school encouraged the exchange of ideas and cultural experiences among students from different countries, fostering new connections and partnerships.

Lviv Polytechnic National University was represented at the event by Liliia Marukhniak, a third-year student of Biotechnology and Bioengineering, and Yuliia Palchevska, a third-year student of Economics. They took part in training sessions, fieldwork, and discussions, gaining valuable international experience.

Due to the efforts of the Ukrainian National Centre of The Baltic University Programme (BUP) at Lviv Polytechnic, the students were able to participate in this international event. The Ukrainian National Centre actively disseminates information about BUP educational and research initiatives, ensuring that Ukrainian students and academic staff have access to the global network of universities working in the field of sustainable development.

The BUP Science and Sail Summer School became not only an important educational experience for the Ukrainian participants, but also a source of new knowledge, inspiration, and impressions, becoming yet another step in the direction of the international cooperation in the field of sustainable development. Participation in such initiatives opens new prospects for young people, supports the development of international academic contacts, and helps strengthen the professional skills necessary for rebuilding Ukraine in the post-war period.
