On 25 April 2025, the final of the exciting Robofootball hackathon organised by the Department of Automated Control Systems, the Institute of Computer Science and Information Technologies, Lviv Polytechnic National University, took place in the IT space of Agiliway. The event became a real celebration of engineering creativity and teamwork: student teams competed in the creation of remotely controlled four-wheeled robotic platforms. Under the guidance of mentors – faculty of the ACS Department – the participants progressed from a concept to a fully developed model, demonstrating a high level of technical training, creativity and team spirit.
The process of creating the robots involved designing the platform, selecting and assembling electronics, and programming the motion algorithms. To create the platform design, it was necessary to analyse the advantages of different configurations, take into account the manoeuvrability, speed, and stability of the platform, and, accordingly, think about the location of the wheels and how to mount the electronic components. The next important stage was the work with electronics: the participants not only chose chips, modules and controllers to control the robot, but also performed the installation themselves – soldering wires, connecting motors, setting up power supply, and checking the system’s performance.
The control panels were a particular highlight: one team made a joystick out of a plastic can of canned fish, creatively combining improvised materials with electronic components, while another team developed a mobile application to control the robot via Bluetooth, demonstrating their programming and mobile technology skills.
After a series of tests, code optimisations, and design improvements, the participants presented their projects, which became a true embodiment of modern IT skills, engineering thinking and teamwork.
The BSOD team won, demonstrating the most effective solution and original approach. In total, the following teams stood on the competition podium:
- First place: BSOD (Mykhailo Shuvar, Mariana Tchaikovska, Vadym Dovhaliuk, Andrii Pastukh);
- Second place: Solianka team (Danylo Bokhonko, Vladyslav Pysmak, Roksoliana Kachala);
- Third place: Galician Engineers (Marta Khabak, Denys Zhyla, Ihor Bychkovskyi, Mark Poplavskyi);
- Third place: RTFM (Oleksandr Tymchyk, Bohdan Zaiats, Viktor Luka, Anastasiia Zabolotna).
The winners were awarded with prizes from Agiliway, Vector Software, GlobalLogic, Sigma Software, and TetaLab.
