Lviv Polytechnic National University hosted the Information Day of the international Horizon Europe project Research Infrastructures for the Future of Ukraine (RIFF), dedicated to the development of research infrastructures and the integration of Ukraine into the European research area. The event was held in a hybrid format, both offline in Lviv and online, enabling participants from various cities and countries to join the discussion. The working languages were Ukrainian and English.
Professor Nataliia Shakhovska, Rector of Lviv Polytechnic National University, participated in the event and delivered a welcome video address. She emphasized that the RIFF project represents a crucial step in developing a modern scientific ecosystem in Ukraine. Nataliia Shakhovska noted that the project’s objectives go beyond restoring the scientific infrastructure to include the training of specialists capable of efficiently managing research infrastructures.
A key part of the program was the presentations by international project partners, who shared the experience of European Union countries in developing research infrastructures. They highlighted the development of national roadmaps for scientific infrastructures in the EU and emphasized that Ukraine is currently at a critical stage of integration into the European Research Area (ERA). The speakers stressed that international cooperation and the exchange of expertise are essential for the ongoing rebuilding and modernization of Ukraine’s scientific infrastructure.
The event served as a model of international scientific collaboration, bringing together Ukrainian universities, research institutions, government agencies, and European experts in the shared goal of advancing innovative science and modernizing research infrastructure in Ukraine.
