During his visit to Lviv, Tom Austin, renowned geodesy expert and former representative of TRIMBLE, met with Professor Nataliia Shakhovska, a new rector of Lviv Polytechnic, director of the Institute of Computer Science and Information Technologies, and Professor Nataliya Chukhray, Vice-Rector for Education and International Relations.
During the meeting, they discussed further prospects for expanding international cooperation, strengthening the university’s technical base, and attracting new grant programs for the innovative development of educational areas.
Lviv Polytechnic has been fruitfully cooperating with Tom Austin for a long time. His active interaction with Professor Kornyliy Tretiak and the team of the Institute of Geodesy (IGDG) became the basis for the implementation of large-scale initiatives in the educational and scientific environment of the university.
TRIMBLE, a leader in the geospatial hardware and software solutions, with the support of Tom Austin, invested more than 1.5 million US dollars in the development of the laboratories at Lviv Polytechnic, in particular in the purchase of modern geodetic equipment. In 2024, the company was recognized as the Philanthropist of the Year of Lviv Polytechnic, taking first place among philanthropists who are supporting the development of our University.
Despite the fact that Tom Austin is no longer an official representative of TRIMBLE, he continues to support Lviv Polytechnic, actively lobbying the interests of the University through other charitable foundations, in particular to meet the needs of the smart agro educational program, which includes digital technologies in agriculture.
