The building is located next to the fourth academic building. According to Maria Ruda, project coordinator from our university, Associate Professor at the Department of Ecological Safety and Nature Protection Activity, this location is temporary. The building will be moved to the courtyard between buildings 1, 2 and 4 and it will be used as a laboratory for students studying environmental protection technologies.

The building was erected on the territory of Lviv Polytechnic to conduct year-round field tests, and later it will serve as a climate change monitoring laboratory. Students will examine specific cases to understand how such a compact house operates and how its environmentally adaptive technologies function in real-life settings.

The building itself was constructed from prefabricated parts manufactured at the Estonian University of Life Sciences for year-round field testing. The construction process of the house is a separate focus of the field tests, as it involved no power tools, lifting equipment, or metal fasteners–relying primarily on a rubber mallet.

The participants of the research project Construction technology of an autonomous quickly erected modular timber building with CNC carpentry joints and its monitoring in real environmental conditions are the Estonian University of Life Sciences (Tartu, Estonia) and such Lviv universities as Lviv Polytechnic National University and the National Forestry University of Ukraine.

The project included training seminars, writing scientific articles and research on this topic. This is the first such building in Ukraine. As it has not been applied in practice yet, after appropriate testing, it can be recommended for implementation in regions that have suffered total destruction of housing as a result of the actions of the Russian aggressor. The funding was provided by the Estonian Environmental Investment Centre, which supports environmental projects and initiatives, including international environmental research programmes.
