On January 18, 2023, Professor Yaryna Turchyn, Project Manager of the Jean Monet Module «EU Eastern Partnership Initiative: Opportunities for Ukraine» and «European Studies for Technical Specialties at Lviv Polytechnic National University», director of the Institute of the Humanities and Social Sciences, Lviv Polytechnic, took part in at the event «Jean Monnet Module Projects for Engineering Majors: Challenges and Prospects», which was organized by the team of O. Beketov National University of Urban Economy in Kharkiv within the framework of the project «Sustainable Urban Transport Policy in Europe /SUTRAN». About 50 participants – academics, practitioners and students – attended the event.
Mariia Osinska, director of the Center for International Activities and Education, O. Beketov National University of Urban Economy in Kharkiv, Ihor Biletskyi, director of the Educational and Scientific Institute of Energy, Information and Transport Infrastructure, as well as Yevhen Kush, head of the Department of Transport Systems and Logistics, addressed the audience with welcome speeches.
Representatives of the National Erasmus+ Office in Ukraine took an active part in the event. Petro Krainyk formulated a number of important tips for the successful implementation of Erasmus+ projects and the search for international partners. Mariia Olkhova not only professionally moderated the event, but also described in detail the project «Policy of Sustainable Urban Transport in Europe». Dmytro Bespalov, as a well-known urbanist and expert in transport modelling, revealed the peculiarities and prospects of public transport in Ukraine and Europe.
Olena Melnyk in her report «Experience of implementing projects at the Sumy National Agrarian University» and Nataliya Hayvanovych, Associate Professor at the Department of Marketing and Logistics, the Institute of Economics and Management, Lviv Polytechnic, in her «Experience of implementing the project «Logistics and chain management supplies: dissemination of European experience», shared their positive experiences of implementing Jean Monet projects in higher education institutions of Ukraine
In her speech «The relevance of Jean Monet projects for technical majors», Yaryna Turchyn emphasized the need to rethink the peculiarities of teaching European studies, taking into account the status of Ukraine as a candidate for EU membership and the trends of Ukraine’s post-war recovery, as well as joint efforts of Jean Monet project participants for development of European studies in technical universities. She invited colleagues to expand professional communication within the framework of the already established Center «European Studies for Technical Specialties at Lviv Polytechnic National University» in order to exchange experience and spread the best educational practices. Khrystyna Barvinska, Associate Professor at the Department of Transport Technologies, the Institute of Mechanical Engineering and Transport, Lviv Polytechnic, also actively participated in the discussion.
Theoretical blocks ended with active discussions, exchange of opinions and proposals for the successful projects implementation and development of new priority goals. The EUSTS and EaP Initiative project teams of Lviv Polytechnic National University hope for further cooperation and express their gratitude to their colleagues for the invitation to such an important event, and wish for the successful implementation of the project «Sustainable Urban Transport Policy in Europe / SUTRAN» at O.
