Polytechnicians join Ukrainian delegation in meetings with German and Polish partners in Warsaw

On 11th – 13th September, 2025, the Ukrainian delegation headed by Denys Kurbatov, Deputy Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine, held a series of meetings with German and Polish partners, as well as the Ukrainian scientific diaspora in Warsaw. The focus was on the issues of restoring Ukrainian scientific infrastructure, expanding opportunities for young scientists, and integrating Ukraine into the European Research Area.

The Ukrainian delegation also included representatives of Lviv Polytechnic National University:

  • Nataliia Shakhovska, Rector of Lviv Polytechnic;
  • Nataliia Hots, Head of the Center for International Education;
  • Denys Nevinsky, Director of the German-Ukrainian Education Center at Lviv Polytechnic.

The 15th meeting of the Joint Ukrainian-German Working Group on Scientific and Technological Cooperation took place at the German Embassy in Poland on 11th September. The session highlighted key policy updates in science and innovation from both countries, the current state of bilateral cooperation, and the progress of joint Horizon Europe projects, among other topics.

A significant event was a separate trilateral meeting on 12th September at the Polish Academy of Sciences with the participation of Ukraine, Germany and Poland. During the discussion, the parties focused on such areas as:

  • modernization and restoration of research infrastructure;
  • creation of new opportunities for students and young scientists;
  • support for the Ukrainian scientific diaspora;
  • preparation of consortia for participation in the Horizon Europe program.

On 13th September, rectors from universities in Ukraine, Poland, and Germany met in Warsaw at the initiative of the German Rectors’ Conference. They discussed shared challenges facing the European university community and explored prospects for new projects, ranging from academic exchanges to the development of double degree programs.

In the coming months, the parties will focus on preparing a package of joint projects for funding, organizing student and young researcher exchange and internship programs, and collaborating in European competitions. A key next step will be the Eastern Partnership meeting on research and innovation, scheduled for November in Berlin.
