Natalia Shakhovska, Rector of Lviv Polytechnic National University, took part in a meeting with Heiko Thoms, the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to Ukraine.

The participants discussed the current challenges facing Ukrainian universities in the context of wartime and demographic changes, as well as the possibilities of deepening Ukrainian-German educational and scientific cooperation.

One of the key topics discussed was Ukraine’s challenging demographic situation and its direct impact on the higher education system. The participants examined the challenges this poses for universities and explored potential response strategies and ways to implement them.

Another important topic of discussion was the training of qualified specialists to meet the needs of national defense and post-war reconstruction. Particular attention was given to strengthening cooperation with universities and research institutions in Germany.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the participants reaffirmed their commitment to expanding cooperation in the scientific and educational spheres, particularly in the areas of digital transformation, infrastructure restoration, and the preparation of professionals for Ukraine’s reconstruction.
