Dear Polytechnicians! We celebrate two special holidays – the Day of the National Flag and the Independence Day of Ukraine which are symbols of our freedom, dignity and indomitability.

In the recent history of our State, it is the youth, the students, who have again and again become the driving force of change. Lviv Polytechnic was in the forefront during the Revolution on Granite, the Orange Revolution and during the Revolution of Dignity. Our students, teachers, and employees took to the streets, defending freedom, the European choice, the dignity of individuals and the nation. You proved then and prove today: youth is the power of Ukraine, its energy and hope for a better future.

Generations of Ukrainians have fought and won under the blue-yellow flag. Today we stand on the shoulders of our titans – those who sacrificed their lives, who died in prisons and Siberian camps, including those shot in Sandarmos, murdered in Kolyma, who fought for Ukraine’s right to be free generation after generation. They did not live to see their own state, but they left us their great dream.

Today, you and I are making this dream come true. We are once again confronting a century-old enemy, because we have our own state, army, science, and most valuable of all, you, the youth, who are the heart of the nation. Every project of yours, every idea of yours, every new discovery is a step towards victory, towards a strong, modern and free Ukrainian society.

We are infinitely grateful to our warriors. Among them there are our students, graduates, and teachers. Their courage is the foundation of Independence. We bow our heads to the memory of those who gave their lives for the freedom of Ukraine, and we pay tribute to those who defend our state today.

Together, united in knowledge, strength of spirit and unity, we do everything possible to make Ukraine free.

Glory to Ukraine!

Glory to the heroes!
