A meeting of the NATO-Ukraine Interparliamentary Council took place at Lviv Polytechnic

On May 17, 2022, a meeting of the NATO-Ukraine Interparliamentary Council (UNIC) took place at Lviv Polytechnic National University.

The members of the Interparliamentary Council were greeted by Maksym Kozytskyi, Head of the Lviv Regional Military Administration.

«You decided to come to Lviv region after another missile strike that night. Thank you very much for your courage. It also shows your support and desire to be with the Ukrainian people. It is symbolic that this meeting is taking place in Lviv region. For many years, our region has been the ideological locomotive of Ukraine's Euro-Atlantic integration and has been a center of training and joint training for the military.

I express my gratitude to every soldier, officer and all NATO instructors who have been involved in training our defenders since 2014. The knowledge that the soldiers gained during the joint trainings significantly affects the result that our army is showing in the confrontation with Russia now", emphasized Maksym Kozytskyi.

He stressed that today Ukrainians with weapons in their hands are defending from Russia the values declared by the whole of Europe.

Rector of Lviv Polytechnic National University Yurii Bobalo spoke about the achievements of the University, the educational process and the active participation of students and teachers in helping the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

“More than 30,000 students study at our University, more than 500 Doctors of Sciences and 1,400 Candidates of Sciences work there. Despite the war, we ensure a smooth learning process. Students and graduate students are actively working to help the military. The University has many volunteer centers that help the state in the fight against the Russian aggressor. Today, about 4,000 migrants live on the territory of Lviv Polytechnic. We have no doubt that Ukraine will win this war. Thank you for the help you give us", said Yurii Bobalo.

Michal Scherba, Co-Chair of the NATO-Ukraine Interparliamentary Council (UNIC), stressed that the delegation had arrived to express solidarity in the fight against the aggressor against the Ukrainian people. He also stressed that NATO member states should provide more modern weapons to Ukraine.

They also raised the issue of the importance of unblocking ports and food security in the world. The situation in Mariupol and the release of Ukrainian defenders were discussed separately.

In addition to holding a meeting at Lviv Polytechnic National University, the delegation also visited a place where temporarily displaced persons live.
