Lviv Polytechnic and Ukrainian Railways sign a memorandum of cooperation

On 9 May, Lviv Polytechnic National University and Joint Stock Company Ukrzaliznytsia (Ukrainian Railways) signed a memorandum of cooperation. This document is intended to establish a long-term and systematic partnership between the leading university of Ukraine and a key player in the transport infrastructure.

At the meeting Lydia Hrytsenko, Board Member of Ukrainian Railways, and Yurii Bobalo, Acting Rector of Lviv Polytechnic, discussed opportunities for further cooperation.

The purpose of the Memorandum is to create effective conditions and mechanisms for the integration of educational, scientific and production processes, as well as to promote the professional development of students and graduates of Lviv Polytechnic. This cooperation is aimed not only at educational and scientific interaction, but also at facilitating the actual employment of young specialists at Ukrzaliznytsia enterprises.

The parties identified a number of common tasks, including

  • establishing systematic interaction between scientists, academics and students of Lviv Polytechnic and specialists of JSC Ukrzaliznytsia in the educational, scientific and personnel spheres;
  • strengthening the influence of the scientific and methodological base on economic processes through joint efforts;
  • establishing partnerships and mutually beneficial relations between the university and the structural units of the railway;
  • adapting study programmes to the needs of the modern labour market and employers’ requirements;
  • supporting students and graduates in employment and provision of consultations;
  • effectively using the scientific and educational potential of both parties;
  • promoting science, education and entrepreneurship within the framework of cooperation between the university and the railway;
  • developing mechanisms for commercialising scientific developments;
  • raising the professional level of railway teachers and employees.

The Memorandum opens up new horizons for the development of applied science, training of qualified personnel and deepening the link between education and the real economy. Both parties expressed confidence that the partnership will bring significant results for the development of the region and the country as a whole.
