The Ministry of Science and Education of Ukraine presented the results of the state certification of higher education institutions and national universities of Ukraine in terms of scientific (scientific and technical) activities, which is one of the key instruments of state policy in the field of science.

Lviv Polytechnic was represented at the final event, held at the Mechnykov Odesa National University, by Roman Korzh, Vice-Rector for Institutional Development, and Roman Nebesnyi, Research and Development Department.

According to the results of the certification, Lviv Polytechnic received category A – the highest rating in two key scientific areas: engineering and technology and natural sciences.

― This is an undeniable confirmation of the high level of scientific research, the university’s ability to develop modern scientific schools, form innovative solutions, and integrate into the international scientific space, emphasized Roman Korzh.

Scientific certification is carried out once every five years. It involves a comprehensive assessment of the scientific activity of higher education institutions and scientific institutions.

Among the criteria by which higher education institutions and national universities are evaluated there are:

  • human resource potential and scientific productivity;
  • the level of publications in leading international publications;
  • the results of implementing scientific developments;
  • participation in international programs and grants;
  • the amount of funding attracted for research.

Institutions that demonstrate high results receive additional state support. This means that in the next five years, Lviv Polytechnic will have additional funding for the development of science, which will allow it to more actively develop research infrastructure, support talented scientists, and expand international partnerships.

― We are sincerely grateful to all Departments and scientific teams for their contribution to the development of science, as well as to the teams of the Research and Development Department, the Center of Information Support, the Personnel Department and the University’s Accounting Department for the large-scale work carried out to prepare materials for the certification. This result is our joint achievement, emphasized Roman Nebesnyi, the head of the Research and Development Department.

In addition to the presentation of the certification results, the Deputy Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine Denys Kurbatov presented the strategy for the development of science for the coming years, which outlined key priorities: a real increase in science funding to at least 1% of GDP by 2027 (0.37% in 2024), the development of research and technological infrastructures, the full digitalization of the science sector, integration into the European research area, strengthening applied research, project-based postgraduate studies and support for young scientists.
