The EuroOsvita Centre for International Projects in partnership with the international group of experts from the IREG Observatory on Academic Ranking and Excellence has published the eighteenth academic ranking of Ukrainian higher education institutions «Top 200 Ukraine 2025».
When compiling this year’s ranking, the experts took into account current trends in the transformation of higher education which is in a state of profound change due to both structural reforms and large-scale losses caused by the full-scale military aggression against Ukraine.
The ranking is based on the Berlin Principles approved by the participants of the second IREG meeting (Berlin, Germany, 18–20 May 2006), as well as the IREG recommendations following the IREG 2024 Conference on AI Influence on Higher Education and Rankings. When compiling the Top 200 Ukraine 2025 ranking, more attention was paid to the indicators that reflect the impact of artificial intelligence on research, innovation and social impact of universities.
Among the international systems that take these indicators into account to the fullest extent is THE University Impact Rankings 2025, which has already implemented modern AI tools, including large language models (LLMs) to automatically analyse and verify the relevance of data submitted by universities. This significantly increases the accuracy and transparency of the assessment. In addition, the Webometrics ranking in the current edition has been replaced by a more structured and representative indicator – SCImago Institutions Rankings whose methodology was updated in 2024.
According to the latest rankings, Lviv Polytechnic National University has significantly improved its performance, climbing from third to second position overall. The University now leads Ukraine in the QS Sustainability 2025 index. It also secured second place in the THE WUR and for participation in research project competitions, while ranking third in the NAAQA accreditation examination and by the number of patents received. The sum of the HEI’s indices is 5.38.
