In 2024, despite a significant reduction in funding of the government-funded program 2201040 «Scientific and technical activities of higher educational institutions and research institutions» (general fund), Ukrainian universities actively sought compensatory mechanisms by expanding their participation in grant activities.
Based on information from open sources – in particular, data from the EU CORDIS (Community Research and Development Information Service), the EACEA Projects Results platform, the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine and the National Research Foundation of Ukraine – the Center for International Projects «Euroeducation» has compiled an updated ranking of the effectiveness of Ukrainian higher educational institutions’ participation in research project competitions in 2024.
Compared to 2023, the positions of the leaders have changed:
- Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv won 57 projects and became the leader in all six nominations taking first place;
- Lviv Polytechnic National University, with 29 winning projects in all six nominations, took the second place in the ranking;
- The National Technical University of Ukraine «Ihor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute», last year’s leader, dropped to third place, also having won grants in all six nominations.
These three universities were the only higher educational institutions to win in all categories.
