On 1 October, a memorandum was signed in Lviv to establish a medical-technological cluster that will serve as a platform for cooperation among scientists, local authorities, the public sector and businesses. The cluster aims to develop innovative solutions in medicine and rehabilitation, which are particularly important for supporting veterans and those affected by the war.
The initiative brought together Lviv Polytechnic National University, led by Rector Nataliia Shakhovska; the Executive Committee of the Lviv City Council, represented by First Deputy Mayor for Economic Development Andrii Moskalenko; the Unbreakable Charitable Foundation, headed by Oleksandr Kobzarev; the Institute of Public Initiatives, led by Taras Alberda; the Academy for Heroes, headed by Oleksii Druhov; and Doctor Eleks company, represented by Tetiana Nitsa, Head of the Quality Control Department.
― Lviv has actually become a hub for our heroes who have to adapt to life again, – emphasized Nataliia Shakhovska during the event. ― Over the past two years, thousands of veterans have passed through the city’s rehabilitation centers, including Unbroken. The accumulated data and practical experience requires in-depth scientific analysis in order to create effective technological solutions based on it.
Nataliia Shakhovska also said:
― Lviv Polytechnic will serve as the technological core of the new cluster. Drawing on its experience with biotechnology clusters, our university will develop technological solutions that truly enhance the quality of life for veterans.
The Medical-Technological Cluster in Lviv will focus on conducting interdisciplinary research in medicine, biotechnology, rehabilitation, and engineering; developing and implementing modern medical technologies in healthcare; supporting the creation and growth of medical technology start-ups; and promoting the commercialization of scientific developments, turning them into practical products and services.
The creation of this cluster marks an important step toward building an innovative ecosystem in Lviv that connects education, medicine, the charitable sector and entrepreneurship. It will foster the development of homegrown medical technologies, generate new solutions in rehabilitation and strengthen the healthcare system. The memorandum lays the groundwork for systematic efforts to address Ukraine’s current challenges and demonstrates how the synergy of diverse sectors can become a powerful resource for supporting those who have dedicated themselves to the defense of the state.
