On January 19, 2026, three study groups for Latvian language, culture, and traditions began their work at the initiative of the Ukrainian National Center of the The Baltic University Programme, located at Lviv Polytechnic National University, with the support of the Honorary Consulate of the Republic of Latvia in Lviv and the public organization “International Society of Ukrainian-Latvian Friendship”.

The classes started despite the challenging conditions of wartime—even during power outages—demonstrating the participants’ high motivation and strong interest. Most of  the participants are academic staff, students, and employees of Lviv Polytechnic, as well as attendees from Kyiv and other cities in Ukraine.

It is important to emphasize that these study groups are part of the systematic cooperation with the Honorary Consulate of the Republic of Latvia in Lviv and is a practical implementation of the announced initiatives within the framework of Latvia Days at Lviv Polytechnic National University”, dedicated to the Independence Day of the Republic of Latvia and the 20th anniversary of the Honorary Consulate of the Republic of Latvia in Lviv.

These studies are not only about learning the language but also about deepening intercultural dialogue, strengthening academic and friendly ties between Ukraine and Latvia, and taking another step towards European educational integration.

We are grateful to everyone who contributed to this initiative, and we wish the participants success in their studies!
