On February 7, 2021, there was the closing of the XIV International School of Ukrainian Studies «Step to Ukraine». It was the first time the School of the International Institute of Education, Culture and Diaspora Relations, Lviv Polytechnic National University, was held in winter (January 25 – February 7).
Students from Brazil, Germany, Kazakhstan, China and Serbia took part in the School. Its participants were divided into four groups, according to the level of their language proficiency (A1, A2, B1, B2) and chose a convenient study schedule.
The teachers of the School were IECDR researchers, doctors of philosophy, authors of textbooks, manuals and articles on Ukrainian as a foreign language, including: Oksana Horda, Nazar Danchyshyn, Halyna Temnyk, Oksana Trumko, Nataliia Martynyshyn and Oksana Halaichuk. The work of the School was coordinated by Olha Rusnak, administered by Andrii Yatsiv, Deputy Director of the Institute.
Students had a two-week intensive course in Ukrainian, which included: daily classes in Ukrainian, daily conversational practice, weekend discussion clubs with celebrities (for group B1-B2), conversation clubs on current topics (for group A1 -A2). A virtual Ukrainian-language platform was created for school students to communicate in Ukrainian with teachers and all students during school and after its completion. At the closing, school participants received course completion certificates.
This year the guests of the discussion clubs were experts in art, medicine and politics. These are Mykhailo Kobryn, director of the Solomiya Krushelnytska Musical Memorial Museum in Lviv; Roman Dutka, Honored Doctor of Ukraine, Head of the Department of Propaedeutics of Internal Medicine, Danylo Halytsky Lviv National Medical University; Liudmyla Zborovska, an actress of the Lviv Theater of Popular Miniatures «I Liudy, I Lialky (Both People and Puppets)», researcher and performer of folklore, a member of the authentic music band Corali; and Oksana Yurynets, Member of Parliament of Ukraine of the VIII convocation, Chair of the Delegation of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly, Candidate of Economic Sciences, Professor at Lviv Polytechnic National University.
The ХІV International School of Ukrainian Studies «Step to Ukraine» has been completed, but it is not the only one in 2021. Preparations for the jubilee XV School, which takes place in the summer on July 19 – August 1, 2021, begins. Welcome!
