On May 26, 2025, during a meeting of the Academic Council of the Faculty of Geology at Ivan Franko National University of Lviv, the winners of the Second Round of the All-Ukrainian Student Research Competition in the field of “Earth Sciences” (Geology) were officially awarded, alongside the winners of the First Stage of the All-Ukrainian Student Olympiad in the discipline “Geology” for the 2024/2025 academic year.
Second place was awarded to Kateryna Boiko, a 4th-year student at the Institute of Geodesy, Lviv Polytechnic National University. Her research project focused on the application of laser scanning technology for cave studies — an innovative area actively developed at the Department of Engineering Geodesy.
As part of a multidisciplinary team of speleologists, geologists, and geodesists, Kateryna participated in the exploration of Mlynky Cave in Ternopil region, using modern 3D laser scanning tools. Her work is a remarkable example of the synergy between advanced technologies and the study of complex natural formations.
A letter of appreciation from the Rector of Ivan Franko National University of Lviv was presented to Associate Professor Ihor Bubniak of the Department of Engineering Geodesy for his supervision and excellent mentorship of the prize-winning student.
We sincerely congratulate Kateryna and her academic advisor on this achievement! Wishing them continued success, inspiration, and many new scientific discoveries ahead!
