Faculty members from the Department of Sociology and Social Work at Lviv Polytechnic National University – Associate Professor Sofiya Stavkova, Senior Lecturer Romana Myshok, Associate Professor Uliana Yatsyshyn, and Associate Professor Mariyana Shkolyar – participated in the international conference “Higher Education, Capacity Building and Societal Crises: International Perspectives” (TURBO Conference II), held at Kozminski University in Warsaw, Poland.
The conference brought together researchers from Ukraine, Norway, Poland, and other countries to engage in interdisciplinary discussions on the pressing challenges of contemporary society. The sessions were organized around several thematic tracks:
- Future of Education: Recovery and Sustainability
- Democracy and Resilience in Public and Private Settings
- Institutional Strategies for Migrant Inclusion and Stability
- Strategic Leadership and Crisis Management
- Education and Innovation for Societal Resilience
- Educational and Social Strategies for Ukraine’s Displaced Populations
During the conference, the faculty members presented their research, showcasing Lviv Polytechnic’s experience and contributions in these areas to the international academic community:
- Sofiya Stavkova and Romana Myshok presented the paper “Experience of Professional Retraining of Internally Displaced Persons within the Framework of the Educational Program “Social Entrepreneurship in the Field of Social Services Provision at Lviv Polytechnic National University”.
- Uliana Yatsyshyn and Mariyana Shkolyar presented the paper “University Support for People with Special Educational Needs in Ukraine during the War.”
In addition to the conference, the faculty members participated in a roundtable discussion within the TURBO project titled: “Education and Social Adaptation of Forced Migrants: Main Benefits and Challenges.”
Both the conference and the roundtable were held as part of the project “The Universities’ Reaction to Big Obstructions: Building resilient higher education to respond and manage societal crises” (TURBO).
These events contribute to strengthening the resilience of education systems in times of crisis, expanding the implementation potential of the TURBO project, and deepening international cooperation.
