The State Organization «Ukrainian National Office for Intellectual Property and Innovations» (UANIPIO) has released a booklet «Intellectual Property in Figures: Performance Indicators in the Field of Intellectual Property for 9 Months of 2024». It contains statistics on the receipt and registration of industrial property rights and copyright, as well as the analysis of the inventive activity of national applicants and business activity in Ukraine during this period.
Despite the fact that the Russian invasion continues, causing destruction of infrastructure, population outflow and humanitarian crisis, the intellectual property sphere continues to actively recover and has made some progress.
In particular, compared to the same period last year, for 9 months of 2024 there was recorded an increase in the number of industrial property rights (IPR) filings and registrations. A total of 23,604 applications (+0.1%) for industrial property rights were filed, and the total number of registrations for 9 months increased by 10.4% to 15,222.
In general, there are positive trends in the field of copyright, which may indicate not only an increase in creative activity, but also the development of digital platforms and services, where it is also important to protect authors’ rights from misuse.
As for the higher education institutions of Ukraine with the highest inventive activity in terms of applications for inventions and utility models filed in the first 9 months of 2024, the top five are:
- Vinnytsia National Technical University – 90;
- Lviv Polytechnic National University – 72;
- Kharkiv National Automobile and Highway University – 69;
- National Technical University of Ukraine «Ihor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute» – 68;
- Ivan Kozhedub Kharkiv National Air Force University – 56.
