Innovations and Prospects of Road Construction: All-Ukrainian Conference held at the Automobile and Road College

The All-Ukrainian Scientific and Practical Conference «Post-War Reconstruction of Ukraine: Innovations and Prospects of Road Construction» was held at the Automobile and Road College, Lviv Polytechnic National University.

The event brought together teaching and research staff, postgraduate students, young scientists, representatives of production, industry and employers from all over Ukraine. The conference became an important platform for discussing the current challenges facing the industry when the country would be recovering after the war.

Five key areas of the conference:

  1. State and prospects of the road construction sector in Ukraine;
  2. Innovative building materials and structures;
  3. Modernisation of road production technologies;
  4. The latest aspects of geological and geodetic surveys;
  5. Ecological construction as a component of the state reconstruction programme.

Mykhailo Brehin, Director of the College, Candidate of Philosophy, Honoured Worker of Education of Ukraine, made an opening speech, emphasising the role of professional pre-university education in training personnel for the road industry in the context of post-war reconstruction.

Petro Kholod, Candidate of Technical Sciences, Director of the Institute of Civil Engineering and Building Systems, Lviv Polytechnic National University, and Khrystyna Sobol, Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor, Head of the Department of Highways and Bridges, also expressed their support and scientific vision.

The representatives of vocational colleges from Kharkiv, Poltava, Zhytomyr, Bar, and Nadvirna also attended the conference.

The result of the scientific meeting was a round table meeting, during which they discussed

  • staffing of the road industry;
  • development of dual education;
  • involvement of employers in the educational process;
  • short-term courses for retraining specialists, including veterans of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

The conference confirmed the need for close cooperation between educational institutions, research institutions and representatives of the road construction industry. The topics discussed demonstrated the relevance of adapting educational programmes to the needs of infrastructure reconstruction, the importance of career guidance, as well as the need for flexible forms of retraining, in particular for veterans.
