From January 20 to 22, 2020 an international seminar on Rethinking Science Education for the Anthropocene was held at the Institute of Geodesy, Lviv Polytechnic National University. It was conducted by Dr. Lev Horodyskyj from the University of Arizona, USA, and logistics support was provided by Assistant Professor Ihor Bubniak from Lviv Polytechnic and Serhii Tsikhon from Ivan Franko National University of Lviv. The seminar participants were representatives of two universities, Lviv Polytechnic and Ivan Franko National University, which teach various disciplines in the field of Earth Sciences.
Theoretical issues of the educational process in the field of Earth Sciences, how the use of digital technology changes the approaches to student teaching as well as new challenges that emerge in the educational process in the Era of New Technology were discussed on first day of the seminar.
The second day was dedicated to the technology of creating electronics classes, software, its advantages and disadvantages and ways how to choose it. The most popular software, used to teach various disciplines in Earth Sciences, was told about.
On the third day there was work in a computer class. The participants explored possibilities of software on the example of previously created courses by Dr. Horodyskyj. Participants also had the opportunity to start working on their own courses using the chosen software.
Participants learned about lots of opportunities that digital technologies offer to improve the educational process, its restructuring and more active student engagement.
