One of the key events of January 2025 was a solemn meeting of the Academic Board, during which Hryhorii Ilchuk, Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Professor at the Department of General Physics, the Institute of Applied Mathematics and Fundamental Sciences, was awarded the title of Honorary Professor of Lviv Polytechnic.
It should be noted that our University has been awarding the title of Honorary Professor of Lviv Polytechnic for more than a century. So far, 47 people have been awarded this title. The academic community of Lviv Polytechnic awards this title to individuals for their outstanding services to the University in various fields.
Professor Petro Pukach, Director of the Institute of Applied Mathematics and Fundamental Sciences, Lviv Polytechnic National University, presented the professor’s achievements.
– Hryhorii Ilchuk, Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Professor at the Department of General Physics, Lviv Polytechnic National University, is a world-renowned expert in the field of semiconductor nanotechnology. Throughout his career, he has been actively and fruitfully working in the field of science, leading research aimed at developing the physical foundations of synthesis and study of semiconductors for alternative energy, in particular, the creation of a highly efficient autonomous system for photovoltaic conversion and solar energy storage. He has published more than 400 scientific papers and holds patents (including 11 international ones) in Ukraine, the EU, Taiwan, the USA and Japan. Among all his scientific articles, more than 120 were published in highly ranked journals indexed in the Scopus and Web of Science databases. He has published 8 monographs, 3 of which were published by international publishers. Over the past 30 years and to this day, he has been manging Ukrainian scientific projects of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, the State Foundation for Basic Research and the National Research Foundation of Ukraine, said Petro Pukach.
The IMFS Director also emphasised that the efforts of research group headed by Professor Hryhorii Ilchuk led to the signing of international cooperation agreements with the Gdańsk University of Technology, Poland, and the University of Camerino, Italy.
– Today’s nominee is the coordinator of cooperation between Lviv Polytechnic National University and the international company Tokyo Boeki Techno-System LTD. Under his leadership, three international research projects have been successfully implemented in Taiwan. They are aimed at developing the physical foundations of alternative energy, in particular, the creation of a highly efficient autonomous system for photovoltaic conversion and solar energy storage, which includes a flexible supercapacitor.
It should also be noted that in June 2011, the well-known American magazine Research and Development published the annual list of winners of the prestigious 49th Annual R&D Awards, including the development of the Taiwan Textile Research Institute (TTRI) «Fully Flexible Fabric Supercapacitor» in the category Electrical Devices. This supercapacitor was developed for TTRI by a team of researchers from Lviv Polytechnic National University headed by Professor Hryhorii Ilchuk. The Chicago Tribune newspaper called this award the «Oscar of Invention».
