On December 20, 2022, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine approved the Strategy for the Implementation of Gender Equality in Education until 2030 and approved the operational plan for its implementation for 2022–2024.
This Strategy defines the basic principles, target groups, strategic goals and tasks for the implementation of the state policy regarding the provision of equal rights and opportunities for women and men in the field of education. The purpose of the Strategy is also to prevent and counteract any discrimination in the field of education for all participants in the educational process at all levels of education.
The document focuses on four strategic goals:
- comprehensive implementation of principles, policies and measures to ensure equal rights and opportunities for women and men, respect for human dignity and non-discrimination in regulatory and legal documents in the field of education as one of the key issues of fundamental rights and priorities in the context of European integration;
- strengthening the role of educational institutions in coordinating the actions of subjects implementing state policy on ensuring equal rights and opportunities for women and men in the field of education, preventing and countering violence and discrimination, and improving the educational process on the basis of equal rights and opportunities for women and men, respect for human dignity, non-discrimination, inclusiveness and countering violence, particularly on the basis of gender;
- strengthening the competence and capabilities of the professional community of specialists in ensuring equal rights and opportunities for women and men, expanding international cooperation in the direction of ensuring equal rights and opportunities for women and men;
- ensuring equal rights and opportunities for women and men, preventing and countering any discrimination, implementing inclusive practices in the field of education as a basis for overcoming the consequences of military actions and post-war reconstruction of Ukraine.
The implementation of the principle of ensuring equal rights and opportunities for women and men in the field of education in Ukraine is connected with the need to overcome stereotypes based on gender during the formation of policy in the field of education.
