The chapel in the Berezhany Castle is distinguished by its special artistic design, formed by many architects during the 16th-18th centuries. Despite the destructive events of the 20th century, the temple has retained some of its original decoration, and its restoration is both essential and highly demanding.
Today, participants of the volunteer camp from the Warsaw Academy of Fine Arts and Lviv Polytechnic National University are working in this direction under the leadership of two famous professors Janusz Smaza and Oleh Rybchynskyi, with the financial support of the Instytut Polonika and the Fundacja Pomoc Polakom na Wschodzie im Jana Olszewskiego.
Preliminary restoration work, identification and sorting the material and artistic solution, inventory, description and photo fixation have been going on for four days in the castle temple with the subsequent transfer for storage to the DIAZ funds in Berezhany. There are already the first significant achievements, interesting results and finds.
Internship in the castle is an extremely valuable experience for students, especially in the field related to history, architecture and restoration. This is a unique opportunity to gain practical skills, apply theoretical knowledge in practice and better understand the specifics of the work.
The preservation of cultural heritage provides an opportunity to explore the past and recognise its significance, while at the same time serving as a crucial contribution to the nation’s future development and a firm foundation for its enduring identity.
