In the park near the ninth academic building of Lviv Polytechnic, employees of the Department of Ecology and Sustainable Environmental Management, Viacheslav Chornovil Institute of Sustainable Development, held an eco-action organized by the All-Ukrainian Environmental League. This time the staff of the Department planted a ginkgo tree.
It is worth mentioning that on April 22, the world celebrates International Earth Day to draw attention to the state of the environment and encourage its preservation. On this day, various environmental actions are traditionally held, trees are planted and territories are cleaned.
– We supported this action on the recommendation of the All-Ukrainian Environmental League – one of the largest environmental organizations in Ukraine, headed by Tetiana Tymochko, advisor to the Minister of Ecology, – explains Myroslav Maliovanyi, Head of the Department of Ecology and Sustainable Environmental Management. – So we decided to join the initiative of planting trees on the Earth Day. We collected money for ginkgo, got permission from the Lviv city administration – they approved the place where we can plant it, and suggested a tree that would fit here – and together we planted it.
The planted ginkgo will become a symbol of the Department and an object of observation for students and faculty who will be able to monitor its growth. At the same time, this is another step towards raising the level of environmental awareness and practical application of the principles of sustainable development.
