From 17 to 23 May 2025, representatives of the Department of Railway Transport, Institute of Mechanical Engineering and Transport, Lviv Polytechnic National University, took part in the 5th International Education Week at the invitation of Yarmouk University in Irbid, Jordan. The event was held under the slogan Global Partnerships for Digital Transformation, Inclusion and Sustainable Development of Higher Education.
The delegation of the Department of Railway Transport included:
- Associate Professor Olena Bal, Candidate of Technical Sciences – Head of the Department of Railway Transport;
- Associate Professor Yaroslav Bolzhelarskyi, Candidate of Technical Sciences, responsible for international cooperation of the Department;
- Ruslana Rop, Candidate of Agricultural Sciences, manager of the educational laboratories.
A number of important activities were carried out during the visit.
- Associate Professor Yaroslav Bolzhelarskyi made a plenary presentation in English in the Sustainability, Environmental Stewardship and Climate Action in Higher Education section on Proposals for Lviv Polytechnic’s participation in Erasmus+ projects related to sustainable development, environmental responsibility and climate action in higher education. The speech presented the structure of our university, areas of international cooperation and the potential of the Department of Railway Transport to participate in international programmes.
- Representatives of the Department of Railway Transport took an active part in plenary sessions, panel discussions and practical workshops on digital transformation, innovations in education, sustainable development and environmental responsibility.
- Polytechnicians got acquainted with the material and technical base of the Faculty for Engineering Technology at Yarmouk University, and also exchanged experience in organising laboratory classes, digitalising the educational process and knowledge control methods.
- Working meetings were held with Professor Mwaffaq Otoom, Vice-Rector of Yarmouk University; Dr. Mohammad Alzubaidi, the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering Technology; and Dr. Ammar Al Rousan, Head of the Department of Industrial Engineering. During the discussion, the issue of developing a joint project under the Erasmus+ KA2 programme aimed at developing hydrogen technologies in the transport sector was raised.
- Professional relationships were established with the Petroleum and Gas University of Ploiești, Romania, which opens up new opportunities for future cooperation in the field of international educational initiatives.
The visit resulted in the establishment of new partnerships and agreements on the preparation of a joint Erasmus+ KA2 project focused on technological innovation and sustainable development in the field of transport.
Polytechnicians are sincerely grateful to the organisers of the event – Professor Islam Massad, President of Yarmouk University, Dr. Rasheed Jaradat, Director of the Department of International Relations and Projects, Ms Mazi, who facilitated communication, and especially to Dr. Ammar Al Rousan, the Head of the Department of Industrial Engineering, for the warm welcome, hospitality and the opportunity to get to know the culture of Jordan and its sincere people.
