The laboratory equipment provided to the Department of Heat Engineering and Thermal and Nuclear Power Plants by the Argonne National Laboratory will open up an opportunity to computer simulate the processes in a nuclear reactor and will enable the quality training of students for the operation of nuclear power plants. The premises are currently being fitted out, and the equipment will be installed next week.

Lviv Polytechnic received six containers from the United States with unique equipment for a new reactor simulation laboratory. It will become the third such lab in Ukraine, along with Odesa and Kyiv Polytechnics.

– In such a way, all Departments that train specialists to operate nuclear power plants will be provided with such a laboratory, – noted Professor Mykhailo Semerak, head of the Department of Heat Engineering and Thermal and Nuclear Power Plants.

The computer uses the third power unit of the Rivne NPP as a basis for calculations. We remind you that each reactor is unique, as they are manufactured individually and in very limited quantities, and the technology is improved every year.

The laboratory will have 15 workplaces for students. They will be able to change the parameters in the program and receive calculated reactor performance indicators.

– All these processes can be analyzed in the classroom. It will be possible to see what will happen if we change the parameters, whether it will lead to good or bad, noted Mykhailo Semerak.

We are grateful to our partners for their help in improving the quality of student training at our University.
