Data Protection Day was held at Lviv Polytechnic National University for the fourth time. This event is organized within the framework of the Erasmus+ project, Jean Monnet Chairs «Data Protection in the EU» (101085612 – DataProEU – ERASMUS-JMO-2022-HEI-TCH-RSCH).
This year, on the World Data Protection Day the event brought together about 200 participants from all over Ukraine – Lviv, Kyiv, Kharkiv, Poltava, Sumy, and Odesa, as well as speakers from leading IT companies in Lviv and Spain. All this became possible thanks to the online format of the event caused by quarantine measures.
Leading lawyers talked about how the personal data of citizens should be protected, what rights they have according to the European General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and what obligations it imposes on businesses. Data protection specialists and software architects explained how to properly configure companies’ business processes to comply with GDPR requirements.
During the round table, all participants of the event had the opportunity to discuss the current state of the situation with the protection of personal data in Ukraine and the world, as well as to offer their own vision of the prospects for the implementation of the requirements of the EU General Data Protection Regulation in Ukraine. They also discussed in detail the prospects of protecting personal data in accordance with Ukrainian legislation.
The students also took an active part in Data Protection Day 2023. In particular, many students of the Institute of Computer Science and Information Technologies, who have already encountered the requirements and restrictions of the GDPR in their work in IT companies, enthusiastically joined the discussions and asked interesting and relevant questions about the protection of personal data that concern young people.
