Randall J. Boyle works in the field of management information systems at Weber State University in Ogden, Utah, USA, which is part of the Goddard School of Business and Economics. Six months ago, he began to remotely teach our students a lecture course under the Visiting Professor program, and now, during his visit to our university, he met with students and the faculty of the Department of Information Technology Security (ITS) and the Department of Information Protection (IP), ICTA, as well as with Nataliya Chukhray, Vice-Rector for Education and International Relations. The plans are to continue cooperation and sign a memorandum of understanding between Weber State University and Lviv Polytechnic.
At the meeting, Randall J. Boyle presented his report on the current state of artificial intelligence technologies (both general and superintelligence), progress in the field of smart robotics, in particular, humanoid robots, as well as the expected consequences and threats of the artificial intelligence era and its impact on society, industry and the labour market. Randall Boyle, together with Ihor Zhuravel, Head of the ITS Department, solemnly presented certificates to the students of the same Department who successfully completed his 60-hour elective course on Practical Aspects of Creating Secure Network Infrastructures.
The purpose of these lectures was to develop students’ systematic understanding and practical skills in designing, deploying and administering network solutions in line with modern cybersecurity standards, as well as the practice of using modern English terminology in cybersecurity. The course also covers introduction and environmental threats, planning and policy, cryptography, network concepts, secure networks, access control, firewalls, and host hardening.
Randall Boyle initiated a conversation with US diplomat Aubrey Hooks, former US Ambassador to Côte d’Ivoire and, before that, to the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Aubrey Hooks holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of South Carolina and a master’s degree in economics from the University of Michigan. The topic of the conversation was Russia’s war against Ukraine and how the world is reacting to this war. In particular, they discussed its information component and the impact of this information on society.
Randall Boyle received his PhD in Management Information Systems in 2003 at the University of Florida. His research interests include fraud detection, data leakage, and information security. His research has been published in leading academic journals, including Decision Support Systems, Journal of Management Information Systems, and Journal of Computer Information Systems. He is also the author of several books, including Using MIS, Experiencing MIS, Corporate Computer and Network Security, Applied Information Security, and Applied Networking Labs. His teaching activities cover a wide range of disciplines, including cybersecurity, computer networks, systems analysis and design, decision support systems, web servers, and management information systems fundamentals.
