From its earliest years, Lviv Polytechnic has established itself as a powerful center of science and education in Europe, a generator of technical ideas and inventions.
A Patent Department was created at the university.
At Lviv Polytechnic National University, in accordance with the Law of Ukraine “On State Regulation of Activities in the Field of Technology Transfer” and Resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine No. 995 dated 01.08.2007 “Some Issues of Implementation of the Law of Ukraine ”On State Regulation of Activities in the Field of Technology Transfer" as part of the Department of Scientific Research and Marketing, based on the intellectual property protection group, an intellectual property protection and technology transfer group was created.
In 2015, during the reorganization of the research department of Lviv Polytechnic National University, the intellectual property protection and technology transfer group became part of the scientific research support department.
In 2020, a group for the commercialization of scientific research and protection of intellectual property rights was established, which performs two main areas of work: protection of intellectual property rights and preparation and submission of tender proposals for the subject of procurement or part thereof (lot), in accordance with the requirements of the tender documentation, and participation in open tenders.
In 2024, this group was reorganized into the Intellectual Property and Technology Transfer Office, which is a structural unit of the Research and Development Department of Lviv Polytechnic National University.
